Understanding Alpha-Arbutin

Alpha-Arbutin is a chemical obtained from leaves of bearberry. The chemical is one of the two conformations of Arbutin. The other is beta. The alpha conformation has a higher stability and most preferred for skin lightening applications.

Use of Alpha-Arbutin

As mentioned, the chemical is used in skin lightening where it works by inhibiting melanin. Research studies show that the chemical works by inhibiting the activity of tyrosinase, an enzyme that controls melanin production. There are two versions of the chemical: the A and B form. The A-form provides higher stability and efficiency than the B-form.

When you use the A-form you tend to have better results. Studies show that in some cases the A-form gives results that are up to 10 times more effective than the B-form. In addition to Alpha-Arbutin lightening your skin, it also provides you with an even skin tone.

How to use Alpha-Arbutin

Manufacturers manufacture the active ingredient in powder form. You should buy the powder from your local stores and apply it twice a day or as directed by your doctor. If you do not have the money but you live in an area where Bearberries grow, you should get the leaves of the berries, crush them, and apply the extract on the areas of the body that you want to lighten.

Tips when using the chemical

Just like any other product, you should be cautious when using Alpha-Arbutin. One of the things that you should do is ensure that you use the right percentages. Many people especially women want fast results so they resort to using extremely high amounts of it. While you may get fast results, you risk developing side effects such as skin irritation that might lead to acne.

To be on the safe side always first consult your doctor on the right amount that you should take. The cool thing is that alpha-arbutin has been found to be ideal for almost all skin types so you do not have to worry about it damaging your skin. In addition to giving a great skin tone and lighten your skin, it has also been found to get rid of dry skin.

There are many stores selling the product but not all are great to buy from. Before making the purchase take your time to research the reputation of the company you are buying from. If buying online, take your time to read reviews. As rule of thumb only buy from a reputable store.

Choosing The Right Dark Circle Treatment – The Best Way To Regain Beautiful Looking Eyes

Dark circles are not seen only in women above a particular age. It can happen even to women in their late teens. The reason for the appearance of puffy eyes in women may vary, but more often than not, it happens because of lack of proper care of eyes and skin. Of course, you can not help it if it's a genetic factor, but if they are caused by stress, lack of sleep, improper skin care or your diet habits, you can easily get over them by using the best available dark circle treatment.

Key Reasons For Appearance Of Dark Circles

Hyperpigmentation or an increase in the concentration of melanin in the skin can cause dark circles. It is also caused by some types of allergic conditions. Skin laxity and thinning because of the natural process of aging can cause puffy eyes. Your lifestyle too can cause this dreaded skin condition. Keep off alcohol and caffeine as they are known triggers. Too much partying and long hours at the work table can be indirect causes of puffy eyes.

There are various types of creams and lotions available that can help in minimizing and gradually reducing the appearance of it under the eyes. However, their sheer numbers can confuse you and you may end up choosing a brand that's high on rhetoric and low on results. It is always better to consult a reputed skin specialist or beautician who can recommend you the best anti aging treatment for the skin that can improve the appearance of your aging skin and reduce the look of it.

What Precautions You Must Take

Wearing dark sunglasses is a good protection measure against under dark circles. The direct effect of harsh rays of the sun can cause the thin skin under your eyes to age faster than the other parts of your face. By using sunglasses, you can keep the skin around your eyes fully protected and minimize the chances of puffy eyes and dark circles.

Anti aging creams that contain proven skin protection and rejuvenating ingredients work best for the prevention and cure. If they have ingredients that assist in improving collagen production, you can be sure you are making the right choice. The best cream can make skin less transparent and the puffy eyes less similar. Do your own research and find out which brand enjoys the trust and confidence of women the most.

IPL for Hair Removal or Laser? Which Is Best?

Laser hair removal is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the beauty industry. It seems that every where you turn, someone is advertising laser hair removal. Remove your hair permanently. It sounds like a great concept right?

The problem is, not every technology is equal or provides safety or results. Laser is the most effective and safest way to remove unwanted hair. 80% of the clinics or spas in the US that advertise this treatment are not actually performing the treatment with a laser. Instead, they are performing it with an IPL (intense pulse light).

What is the difference? Well it's simple. The difference is how the technology destroys the hair and how it affects the skin. An IPL is a very wide range light spectrum and targets everything including the hemoglobin, water and pigment at a very slow rate. The lower rate, the shorter the energy penetrates the skin. In other words, how deep the energy will penetrate.

IPL is the most common technology used when removing unwanted hair. There are many brands of IPL available on the market, however, none of them penetrate deep enough to remove the hair long term. IPL at best, will only penetrate about 800 nm (nano meters) into the skin. Why is this important? The hair typically grows at a depth of 800-1100 nm. Therefore, if the technology is only capable to penetrate 800 nm into the skin, it is not effective in destroying the root of the hair resulting in permanent reduction. When using IPl technology to remove unwanted hair, the technician or doctor performing the treatment may ask that you do not shave. This is so that the technology will have more of the hair to target in hopes that the energy will target pigment and water less and focus more on the hair itself. Neverheless, the technology does not penetrate deep enough to effectively remove the hair.

It is recommended that 5-6 treatments are needed to provide results. This is true but only for a laser. Many times someone selling an IPL technology will provide the same expectations, nine out of ten times those IPL clients will end up needing 10-15 treatments depending on how the ability of the IPL in targeting the hair.

When we talk about safety of a technology in terms of adverse side effects; IPL is also a more unstable technology that can cause adverse side effects such as blisters or post inflammatory hyper pigmentation. An IPL technology has a very wide light spectrum. Again, the light targets everything including water. When heat is applied to the skin, naturally the water in our tissue is absorbed. If the energy is not controlled, and too much water is absorbed, blistering can occur. An IPL is also associated to pigment. The more pigment a client has in their skin, the more heat that will be created and the higher risk the client has in developing a burn. For this reason, alone, is why IPLs are not recommended for skin types other than a one or a two.

A laser is a much more effective treatment and also a safer option. A laser provides light at a much faster rate when penetrating the skin that results in less water absorption that in turn results in less change for any adverse side effects. A laser also penetrates deeper and further than an IPL technology which targets the hair where it grows and reproduces. Hair can grow as deep as 1100 nm into the skin. Where an IPL can not penetrate that deep, a laser can. This makes a laser a much more effective solution.

So why do clients choose an IPL over a laser? One, they are not provided the option and not provided education on the difference between an IPL and a laser. Two, the client is not given the option or the clinic does not offer both technologies. Three, IPL is a cheaper treatment over a laser. Typically an IPL treatment is a third of the cost of a laser when looking at a 5 treatment package of treatments. However, in the end the IPL is more expensive because most patients will need continuous treatments to maintain the results or to target the hair.

IPl can be very effective for thick, dark hair on light skin types because the hair is easily targeted because of its color and texture. If the client has light skin tones then the chance for an adverse side effect is lowered.

When considering “laser hair removal, it is important to research the type of technology that will be used and the brand that the technology comes from to insure it is a laser and not an IPL.

As a whole a laser for hair reduction is the best option because it can be utilized on every skin tone, target all densities of hair and has a lowered risk of potential bulk heating that can result in blisters or more severe reactions.

Simple DIY Skin Care Remedies

It can be a bit challenging to maintain healthy skin care. People often accidently abuse their skin without knowing. There are many brand name cleansers, toners, moisturizers and anti-aging products out there that contribute to skin abuse. If you'll notice many of the over-the-counter products leave your skin feeling dull, dry and flaky and never ever provide the long-term results you are looking to achieve. Many products even cause serious breakouts as most of the over the counter stuff is created for sole purpose of protecting you from sunburn and nothing else. The other reason is because of the chemicals used to make the products. If you read the ingredients on the bottles closely, some of those same ingredients are used to make cleaning products, bleaches, and disinfectants which can not at all be healthy for skin. This is where the incidental abuse comes in and we further abuse it by believing that covering our skin with makeup will fix it. The goal should not be just about having great looking skin but rather healthy skin. Below are a few of my very own at-home DIY (do-it-yourself) skin care techniques and secrets that will help you to achieve the goal of getting healthy skin and sustaining a radiant healthy glow.

Cleansing

It is very important to wash your face. Before bed and when you first wake up, especially. Many skin face wash and cleansers contain active ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulfate and ammonium lauryl sulfate which are extremely harmful to skin. Sulfates are surfactants that are used as cleansing agents to cut oil from the skin but they are too strong and will cause surface dehydration. If you've ever wondered why you have dry skin that you can not get rid of – this is probably the reason. One of my favorite do-it-yourself homemade cleansers is a combination of baking soda and witch hazel. Mix together and add a little water to create a nice paste. Spread evenly around skin in gentle circular motion and wash. Baking soda is a natural antibiotic that cures the underlying fungal infections. It can also slowly erase acne scars and speed the healing of acne damage. It is also the largest weapon to use against bacteria and inflammation that causes blackheads. Witch hazel is a natural astringent. It helps to reduce the opportunities of inflammation and its strong anti-inflammatory properties are great for killing bacteria that forms under pores before they even begin. Not only is the baking soda and witch hazel combo a very simply face wash to make it is also very effective. You must cleanse your skin daily. This is rule. Cleansing is especially necessary for those who use make up on a daily basis. Just try it.

Exfoliating

Dead skin cells pile up on the surface of skin leaving it looking dull and dry. Dead skin cells are a huge contributor to clogged pores. Exfoliating is important because it removes dead skin cells that clog the skin and uncovers fresh new cells. This opens the way for moisturizing products to penetrate more deeply into the skin, which makes them more effective. You do not need to purchase expensive exfoliants to get the job done. You can whip up a simple home exfoliant that will scrub away those dead skins cells just as effectively. Oatmeal exfoliants are bar none the best. Oatmeal is full of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds and is known for its skin-soothing properties including moisturizing dry skin, providing relief from itching, rashes and other minor skin irritations. Honey provides natural antibacterial and healing properties to soothe and clarify the skin. Coconut oil is a natural nourishing agent for the skin. All you have to do is mix them together creating a nice blended concoction and gently spread on your face evenly. Allow mask to sit for about 10 minutes before washing off thoroughly.

The above exfoliant and cleanser recipes are just two of my personal favorites. There are other recipe combinations that you can hook up. Almond oil and sugar makes for a great softening agent, as does avocado, salt and lemon juice. All of these ingredients make up fantastic exfoliate recipes that scrub away all of those dead cells.

Be mindful, it is only necessary to exfoliate 1-2 times per week. Excessive use of exfoliants can dry out skin and cause redness and even rash. Do not exfoliate if you have skin rash or sunburn. Cleansers and exfoliants are not one in the same. Please do not try to substitute one for the other. In short, a regular exfoliating routine will leave your skin looking fresh and healthy.

Moisturize

Moisturizing is the most important part of maintaining healthy skin right behind cleansing. You must moisturize daily at least twice per day. Morning and night. The best kind of moisturizer for skin is water. Not only should you be drinking lots of it but you should also splash your skin with it on a daily basis. Lukewarm water is preferred. Water provides organic nourishment and hydration that your skin needs. You can do so by using both night and day moisturizers to keep the skin hydrated and relaxed. If like me, you are not a fan of the over-the-counter stuff and have the kind of skin that swallows oil like a big fish, you can whip up a homemade moisturizer using Aloe Vera plant gel, Vitamin E and shea butter .

To achieve a healthy, radiant glow, good skin care does have to be such a complex chore. You also do not need to spend lots of money to sustain it. Some of the best medicines and skin care remedies can be achieved naturally at home through use of items that are sitting right in your cupboards and refrigerators.

Skin Whitening Products – Do They Really Work?

If you wish to whiten or lighten your skin pigmentations, freckles, age spots, acne marks, dark underarms, melasma, or your overall skin color, then this will be the most important article you will ever read.

Skin whitening, skin lightening, and skin bleaching are the practices of using chemical or natural substances to lighten skin tone or even an skin skin complexion by reducing the melanin concentration in the skin. Melanin is the pigment that gives human skin, hair, and eyes their color. Melanin is produced by cells called melanocytes. It provides some protection against skin damage from the sun, and the melanocytes increase their production of melanin in response to sun exposure.

By using skin lightening techniques, specific zones of abnormally high pigmentation such as freckles, moles and birthmarks may be depigmented to match the surrounding skin. And, in cases of vitiligo, unaffected skin may be lightened to achieve a more uniform appearance.

Most skin-lightening treatments, which can reduce or block some amount of melanin production, are aimed at inhibiting tyrosinase. Tyrosinase is an oxidizing enzyme, occurring in plant and animal tissues, that accelerates the oxidation of tyrosine into melanin and other pigments. Inhibiting tyrosinase activity reduces the synthesis of melanin so that as existing skin cells are naturally exfoliated keratinocytes with less melanin are actually brought to the surface, giving the skin a lighter, more even toned complexion.

There is some controversial and negative health effects to skin whitening products. There's evidence to suggest that some types of skin-whitening products use active ingredients (such as mercurous chloride) and hydroquinone which can be harmful; however, 2012 sales of skin lightening creams in India alone totaled 258 tons and the global market for skin lighteners is planned to reach US $ 19.8 billion by 2018 based on sales growth primarily in the US, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. So, there is a huge market for skin whitening products.

Some natural sources for skin lightening are alternative lighteners derived from natural sources of hydroquinone. Pure forms of arbutin are considered more potent for affecting skin lightening. Arbutin is derived from the leaves of bearberry, cranberry, mulberry or blueberry shrubs, and also is present in most types of pears. It can have melanin-inhibiting properties. Arbutin and other plant extracts are considered safe alternatives to commonly used depigmentation agents to make the skin fairer. Medical studies have shown the efficiency of arbutin for skin lightening.

Be sure to research any product you use and use especially natural products that are 100% guaranteed!

What Is Scabies? Signs and Simple Treatments!

Today I want to talk about what is scabies as well as signs and some simple treatments.

Everyone has fears and one of my biggest fears are the things you can not see, such as viruses and itch mites.

These mites that cause scabies are in every part of the world, but not if it's too cold or hot. Of course you can not live in those temperatures either.

If someone has itch mites and you shake their hand, sit next to them in class you probably will not get it. These nasty bugs can not fly or jump, but only crawl very slowly. The most common way is skin to skin contact, such as sleeping with someone.

Also you really do not know if the person you are sleeping with has these mites because symptoms may not appear for up to 2 months and they can pass it on to you.

You can still get if from items that have it such as bedding, clothes are a chair, but it's more rare.

If a female bug gets on you it will bury in your skin, creating waste and laying eggs. These eggs hatch leading to other dust mites that head to the surface to enter the dating game, where the process begins again.

You might be asking yourself how do you know if you have a scabies infestation and it's not a heat rash, or something else. One is very bad itching and I mean very bad.

If the itching is worse at night that is another sign because the mites are more active at this time.

If the itching spreads to other parts of the body then that is another red flag.

Do you have red lines and bumps? The lines could indicate tunnels and the bumps their homes

These bumps usually appear on skin that fold over itself such as your elbow and back of the knee.

Another sign is people around you are scratching and ask yourself having you traveling to any new places recently.

If you think for second you have these bugs, you should act. One is idea is to get coconut oil, rub it on the areas that are itching and let it sit there for a very long period of time. Coconut oil helps the infection and will suffocate the mites. Regardless it's very good for your skin.

Another idea is an onion. Grind it up into a paste, or boil it and apply to the areas that itch. The mites do not like the quercetin in the onion and it can kill them. Plus regardlessless are very good the skin.

A third idea is turmeric. Turmeric is a yellowish powder and curcumin is the ingredient in it.

The Best Treatments for Acne Scars

Teenage years can be a confusing time since a person is going through a lot of physical and emotional changes. Studies too are getting tough and everyone starts expecting a more responsible behavior which is not always easy.

Acne has the knack of showing up all of a sudden and can ruin the perfect look. Thankfully, for most people, it goes away with puberty. However, not everyone is that fortress and in some people, acne can continue to be a problem for many more years to come.

There are a number of problems associated with chronic acne. Apart from the cosmetic effect, acne can also have physical symptoms like pain and puss leakage. If left uncontrolled, acne can cause real scaring effects.

To counter acne scarring, proper corrective treatments are needed. Traditionally, people have relied upon surgical scar removal. However, with nonsurgical and minimally invasive treatments available, people tend to prefer them due to equally good results and no lengthy downtimes or severe side effects.

These nonsurgical treatments warrant a closer look as they promise to deliver extremely good results. Let's take a closer look at these to learn more about them and how they help in getting rid of these unwanted scars.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

The laser used for this purpose is the Fractional CO2. This is fractional version of carbon dioxide laser that make microscopic holes in the skin, resurface it and bringing healthy skin on top. This happens as the damaged skin crises away. The treatment also helps in boosting the collagen and elastin production levels which further smoothens the skin.

Fractional CO2 treatment for acne scars is considered equally good to the surgical scar removal without the downtime. The side effects too are fairly mild and temporary. To completely remove a scar, the treatment has to be repeated a few times. There is some pain during the treatment which is countered with the help of topical anesthetics.

Dermabrasion

This is a treat that employs a specialized wire brush to exfoliate the top layer of the skin to remove the acne scars. As the skin heals, it has less appearance of the problem. The treatment also boosts the collagen levels in the skin.

This highly invasive treatment is performed after the administration of local or topical anesthesia. Much like other noninvasive treatments, it too needs to be repeated a few times to remove the scars completely. Side effects are present and there is a brief downtime so be sure to have days off available after a treatment session.

Microdermabrasion

It is an advanced model of dermabrasion which is minimally invasive in nature. It works by spraying tiny crystals on to skin with the help of a handheld device. The crystals cause injuries to the skin which instigates the healing process. As the skin heals, the appearance of the scars lessens. At the same time, more collagen is produced which further helps in firming up the skin.

The treatment is a lunchtime procedure with no downtime. Side effects are also negligible and generally last for a day or two. To numb down any pain, topical anesthesia is commonly used prior to the treatment. The scars can be removed within a few treatment session.

Chemical Peels

These acidic solutions are easily available in drugstores without a prescription. Doing it yourself seems to be an appealing option but do keep in mind that it can leave you with damaged skin so it is best left to the professionals.

The peels are useful for mild acne scarring only. They are applied to the damaged area and left in place for about twenty minutes before being removed. The skin resurfaces and the appearance of the scars is lessened. Much like other nonsurgical treatments, chemical peels also boost the collagen level in the skin.

The treatment may need to be repeated more than once based on the strength of the peels. Local or topical anesthesia is used, once again depending on the peels' strength. Side effects are generally not very large and usually there is little to no downtime.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injections composed of natural fat and collagen. To counter acne scars, they are injected into the site of the scar. This raises the appearance of the skin in the region and improves the smoothness of the surface. To fully take effect, the fillers take a few days.

The time period of the effectiveness of the fillers varies. Their results can last from a few weeks to a couple of years. The fillers can then be used again to maintain the fantastic results. It is important to see a doctor before getting fillers to ensure that you are a good candidate for the treatment.
